( Fringe! )
( Eli Stone! )
It's a good thing I have television, because it's really the only thing going well in my life... which is more than a little sad, I know. If only Bones and Dirty Sexy Money were on tonight... stupid baseball and politics... now all I have tonight is Ghost Hunters.
I am looking forward to The Simpson's Treehouse of Horrors on November 2nd, though!

I wish I had found that ad sooner, because they didn't have any full time positions available (I thought they'd wait until the end of the interviewing period and then hire the best people, but apparently it's more of a rolling admissions deal, because two people who had already been hired came in to do paperwork while i was applying). I'm glad I didn't wait until Monday when I have my Toys R Us interview, because they did still have part time positions. The woman I talked to said it would be about 20 hours a week (more the first week before the store opens), and she said she would send in my paperwork to be sure but she didn't see any reason I wouldn't be hired. So hopefully that will work out.
If it does work out, I hope I hear from them before my interview at Toys R Us, because I really hate interviews and don't want to do any more than necessary. If GrrMart hires me first, I plan to take the job even though I could potentially still interview at Toys R Us and see if they'll give me full time. I just get the feeling that I'll get in there and find out that Toys R Us only wants seasonal people, even though I didn't mark seasonal on my application, and I'd rather have a part time job year round than a seasonal job. Plus, if I interview on the 29th, I might not hear back before I'd have to let GrrMart know... if they hire me, I'll start October 4th, and waiting to hear from one place while having to let another place know is an extra stress I do not need in my life. Plus, I'd rather have a GrrMart discount than a Toys R Us discount.
Here's hoping I'll be employed very, very soon.

hopeful
The up side to Toys R Us is that I wouldn't spend all my money where I work. The up side to GrrMart is that I'd get an employee discount that I'd actually use. It's a thin line, folks.
*Edit: I will refer to this company as GrrMart from now on, so that I can complain with impunity.
To this day, I have not seen an episode of Heroes, because I missed the beginning of the first season. I got into 30 Rock late, but half-hour comedies just aren't as difficult to catch up with. I also missed the premieres of Jericho and Ugly Betty, and never gave either show a chance when I got home. I think, however, that I have just discovered the show I most regret missing at the time. I just finished a Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip marathon, courtesy of Hulu, and this show freaking rocked. Aside from the occasional tendency to repeat the same information 30 million times in an episode, I really have no major complaints about the show. 22 episodes of awesome. I tend to prefer hour-long shows, drama or comedy, over half-hour comedies anyway, but I really do like this better than 30 Rock. Don't get me wrong, 30 Rock is great, but Studio 60... man, it really sucked me in.
If nothing else, it's really fantastic to see Matthew Perry in a role other than Chandler Bing. Yeah, he's done some movies, but let's face it, his characters in The Whole Nine Yards, Fools Rush In, Serving Sara, and Three to Tango were all basically slight variations on Chandler. He really is an excellent actor, with an actual range, and it's nice to be reminded of that. Even aside from Matthew Perry, they had some pretty major names in this thing... Amanda Peet, Steven Weber, Bradley Whitford, D.L. Hughley, and recurring appearances from Ed Asner. Plus... Nate Corddry? How is he not a huge star by now? Or at least my boyfriend? J/k, but seriously, he's really great.
*Sigh* Why do so many of the great ones get cancelled so soon?
*shudder*
... because some days, I just know that if I had my own transportation, I would just take off.
... those days have been increasing a lot lately, and maybe it would be good for me, on some level, to get away.
... but today's my mom's birthday, so it would have been really bad timing.

All of those are from Tom Stoppard's "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead." The first two have deeper meaning for me; the third is just part of a joke, but it's one of my favorite lines anyway.
I like this quote, too, from Stephen Crane's "The Open Boat," but, sadly, it's too long (This is in this font because I'm experimenting with fonts to print quotes out in to put up in my room, eventually).
If I am going to be drowned--if I am going to be drowned--if I am going to be drowned, why, in the name of the seven mad gods who rule the sea, was I allowed to come thus far and contemplate sand and trees?
I called the library today to see if the position had been filled. They did hire someone, but they're going to have two more spots opening up soon, so they'll be going through the applications again. The girl I talked to said it might be about a week before they start calling people to interview. Man, I hope I get a call. I think part of my problem in my job search thus far is that I didn't really want to work at the places where I applied. I mean, I wanted a job, I just didn't particularly care if it was at any of those places, and that probably came through in my interview. Plus, I suck at interviews anyway. Seriously. Jeremy liked me more than any of my other bosses last summer did, once he got to know me, and he told me later that he hadn't wanted to hire me when I interviewed. I just totally suck at first impressions... it's not like this is new information for me, lots of my friends were annoyed by/didn't like/outright hated me at first. I just need time to grow on people, but that doesn't work for job interviews. *sigh.* Anyway, though, I really do want this job at the library, so I might not f*ck up the interview as badly... unless I'm just more nervous than usual because I want the job... crap. This could go in circles all night, and I really shouldn't work myself up, especially when I don't even know if I'll get called for an interview at all. The thing is, if they don't call me, I'm out of options. I seriously can't think of anywhere else to apply. If only I had skills or qualifications.
Let's start with Gossip Girl.

And then, there's Bones.

It's not a season premiere, but I have something to say about this week's Psych, too.

Next week, the Fringe premiere!!! Here's hoping it doesn't suck donkey balls.

discontent
In the meantime, I've got another application in at the library. I'd much rather work there, but I haven't heard anything from them. I put the application in this past Friday. I'm not sure if I should give up hope of ever getting called for an interview. It feels like they would have called by now if they were going to, but they've been looking for someone for quite a while and I can't think of any reason that I wouldn't at least get an interview based on my application. I have a degree in English Literature, I have customer service experience, and I'm comfortable using computers. It's not that they always wait for applicants to call and check up on their application before interviewing, because my mom has a friend who interviewed and she didn't have to call them.
If I do get the job at Red Lobster (unlikely though it may be), and then the library calls me to interview, I don't know what I should do. The library would probably be more hours (it's 37.5 hours per week, including some evenings and weekends... but they open at ten and close by eight, which would be great for me even assuming I'd work some hours before and after closing, and I told Red Lobster that I'd work 20-40 hours per week, crazy restaurant hours). I'd also like to work at the library because it would give me some idea of whether or not I'd like to go to grad school for Library Science. I'd much rather give it a test run than shell out the big bucks to (probably) Drexel and then find out I hate it.
If I don't get either job, I really feel like I'm on the verge of hopping a cruise ship for a few months. I feel like it'd be a mix of Conferences and Study Abroad (two of my favorite experiences)... working crazy long hours with (sometimes) insane clients, but also living with co-workers in a little community while traveling and getting to have new experiences during off hours. I also wouldn't have to worry about not having a drivers license-- I'd already be at work. I'd get free room and board, experience that could help me get a job in a hotel (useful if I end up near Atlantic City), my contract would be up in time for me to move in with Katie if she still needed a roommate, and I'd possibly have the option of signing another contract if she didn't. The downsides to this plan are that my mom would probably flip out if I took off like that (even though I'm gonna move somewhere eventually, and this way I'd still come back for some amount of time when my contract was up), I'm pretty sure we're moving into a time of year when cruise lines need fewer people, and I couldn't take my dvd collection. Oh, yeah, I'd miss some of my friends' weddings, too, but as much as I love my friends, I really need to lay off of planning my life around their nuptials.
PS: The cruise plan would probably at least have to wait until I find out when/where my sister is getting married. That's right, my sister is getting married!!! What's that, you say? You had no idea she was dating someone? Neither did we. She got engaged to a guy she'd known less than a month. He lives in Israel, which is where they met. They don't know yet where they'll live. The best part? He's French.

Also, my sisser just got back from Israel, and she brought me the coolest candy ever. It's a chocolate bar with pop rocks in it! It's just like something you'd find in Honeydukes... as a matter of fact, if they don't have some version of this in Honeydukes at the HP theme park Universal is building, I'll be severely disappointed. We need this in America!!!!
